Centre of the Cell

£120k Grant over 3 Years to Centre of the Cell
Information provided by Centre of the Cell

Centre of the Cell is an informal biomedical science education centre and outreach project located in Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets. It is the first science education centre in the world to be located within medical research laboratories, part of Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. We seek to have a positive impact on the educational, career and health choices of the children, young people and families we work with.
The grant from the Drapers’ Company will enable the Centre to widen its public engagement portfolio and to reach more children, in particular in hard-to-reach schools. It would allow us to direct funds to areas of growth, such as more engagement with schools and the community and subsequently, take specific projects forward according to those demographic needs. With Neuron Pod, our new purpose-built learning and community space, we can diversify and innovate our public engagement activities through expanding our show and event portfolio, grow audiences, build new relationships and ‘open the doors of opportunity’ for future young scientists.
