Grants are awarded to promote the education of young people under the age of 25 who live in Greenwich and Lewisham, particularly those from a low-income or otherwise disadvantaged background. Grants are awarded to both individuals and organisations.
The following is a brief guide to Sir William Boreman’s Foundation grants. If you are thinking about applying for a grant, we recommend you first read our guidelines in full to find out if you might be eligible.

What does the Sir William Boreman’s Foundation not fund?
The Foundation does not fund:

Tuition fees
-
Study overseas
-
Grants to cover specific loans and/or debts
-
Grants to set up a business venture
-
Independent school fees
-
Students aged over 25 and pre-school aged children
-
Postgraduate students who have 2:2 degree or lower
-
A Level studies (except for post 19 year old students)
-
Retrospective funding
Who might be eligible for a Sir William Boreman’s Foundation grant?
Individual applicants must:
-
be under 25;
-
be a UK national or have 'settled status'
-
live in Greenwich or Lewisham; and
-
have a total household income of £30,000 gross (before tax) or less.
There are three categories of beneficiary:

Individuals aged 16-25

Individuals aged under 16

Organisations
What can a grant to individuals be used for?
A grant can be used to help cover living expenses while studying, including:

Daily living costs such as rent and food
-
Travel costs to and from college or university
-
Educational materials, books and equipment
-
Childcare costs
For under-16s, grants can be used for:

School uniform and sports kit
-
Travel costs to and from school
-
School trips that are part of the curriculum
-
Other necessary educational expenses

Organisations
Registered charities and educational organisations can apply by setting out in writing:

which projects or activities you need funds for;

how this will benefit the education of young people living in Greenwich or Lewisham;

your operational/project budget; and
-
any other funding you have received or applied for.

When can I apply?
You can apply at any time of the year. Applications are considered at meetings in November, February and June.
The next meeting date is:
5 February 2019
4 June 2019
In order to be considered, completed applications should be submitted at least three weeks before these meeting dates.
How much can I ask for?
Grants of up to £3,000 are normally awarded to individual applicants in further or higher education. Students studying for two or three years can reapply for each year of their course.
Grants to organisations are usually one-off awards of up to £5,000
When will I hear if I have been successful?
Applicants are usually told the outcome within two weeks of the meeting at which their application is considered.
Can organisations apply for a grant?
Yes. Applications from registered charities and educational establishments are welcome. Grants are awarded to fund projects in Greenwich and Lewisham that will be of educational benefit to young people aged under 25, preferably focusing on inclusiveness.
