Types of grants
| The main aim of the Foundation is to make educational grants to students at secondary school and institutions of further and higher education. This includes costs of books, school uniform, educational outings, travel fares, equipment/stationery, maintenance, student fees/living expenses and costs for mature students such as childcare. The average grant is approximately £500, the maximum up to £2,500.
The Foundation rarely gives assistance with private school fees and then only in cases of unexpected and considerable hardship since the childs entry to the School and where the child is due to sit either GCSEs or A levels in the current academic year. Grants may only be made to UK citizens or Home Office recognised refugees (who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years). Grants are not usually given to those in receipt of a major local education authority award (unless specific hardship may be identified), or to help with the cost of study or travel abroad or exchange visits. Preference will be given to the children of parents who served in the armed forces, particularly those who followed a seafaring career. Applications will also be considered from organisations that cater mainly for individuals in Greenwich or Lewisham who would be eligible to apply to the Foundation e.g. schools, youth organisations or colleges. |
