Origin: Under his Will dated 9th November 1963, Henry Dixon bequeathed all his property and lands to the Company in trust, the income therefrom to be used towards placing poor boys as apprentices to handicraft trades. Schemes of 1848, 1923, 1961 and 1966 gradually widened the trusts to include the award of grants for a range of educational needs in addition to apprenticeships, and to include girls as well as boys.
Under the Scheme of 1966, the incomes of several small charities were combined with that of Henry Dixons Foundation for ease of administration, and the group became known as the Education Fund. The assets of the various separate charities were formally transferred to the Charity in July 1997, under the provisions of Section 74 of the Charities Act 1993
In 2001, a share of the endowment capital of another small charity Sir Thomas Cullums Trust was transferred to the Charity.
Policy: The policy of the Trustee is to disburse the income of the Charity in providing grants for further education in the fields of (a) music, (b) technical textiles, and (c) other projects within the objects of the Charity which will enable the Trustee to extend the scope of its grant making.
The Trustee does not invite unsolicited appeals for charitable assistance from the Charity.
